Permanent Outdoor Lighting in Westlake, OH
Installed once. Lit every night. Holiday color from your phone.
Westlake sits on the side of Cleveland that gets less lake-effect snow, which makes it the simplest place in Northeast Ohio to put a home on a permanent lighting system. The channel goes up once, in dry conditions, and from then on the house is lit every evening of the year with no ladder, no storage, and no January takedown.
Why permanent lighting fits the west side
Westlake, Bay Village, Rocky River, and Avon get a fraction of the snow that falls on Shaker Heights or Chagrin Falls. That matters for permanent lighting in two ways. First, the install window is wider, so we can put a system up in late fall with less weather risk than the east side. Second, the homes here are largely newer builds and well-kept post-war colonials with asphalt shingle, composite trim, and seamless gutters, which is the easiest roofline in the territory to fit a clean channel to.
What the west side does get is wind. Lake Erie is right there, and the homes north of Detroit Road and along the lakefront in Bay Village take it directly. A permanent system does not hang or sway. The channel is fixed to the fascia, the nodes are sealed inside it, and there is nothing for the wind to lift.
How the system works
Permanent lighting is a slim aluminum channel mounted along the roofline, soffit, or fascia, with individually addressable LED nodes inside. In daylight it reads as a trim line, color-matched to the fascia. At night each node can be any color and brightness, in any pattern, controlled from an app on your phone.
- Dimmable warm white for the everyday look most Westlake homes run most of the year
- Holiday scenes saved and scheduled, so December takes care of itself
- Team colors for Browns, Guardians, and Cavaliers nights, if you want them
- Sunset timers and schedules so it comes on when the sky goes dark
- Weather-rated components built for lake wind, wet snow, and freeze-thaw
Attachment without holes in the house
The channel mounts to the fascia or soffit, never to the roofing. On the newer builds in Westlake and Avon with composite trim and aluminum fascia wrap, we use fastening matched to the material so there is no corrosion and no visible hardware. On the older Bay Village and Rocky River homes with painted wood trim, the fastening is minimal and the channel is color-matched so it reads as part of the house. If the system ever comes off, the trim is intact.
The same no-holes rule applies to our seasonal holiday lighting, which is clip-mounted and never stapled or nailed. Many west side homes run a permanent roofline and layer seasonal garland, wreaths, and tree wraps on in December. We install both and design them together.
Designed for the house you actually have
Every permanent install starts with a walkthrough. We measure the main roofline, the gables, the dormers, the porch, and the garage, and we talk through what the house should do on a normal Tuesday versus a holiday. Lighting every edge of a roofline usually looks busy. Lighting the right edges looks like architecture. From there we cut the channel runs to length, set node spacing for even light, and program your first scenes before we leave.
For commercial properties, Crocker Park and the Detroit Road corridor are where most of our west side commercial permanent work lands. The system scales to storefronts, restaurant patios, and office entrances with scheduling that works around retail hours. See our commercial lighting page for that side of the work.
What is included on a Westlake permanent install
- An on-site walkthrough covering the street elevation and any other elevation you care about
- Channel runs cut and matched to your rooflines, gables, dormers, and entry
- Addressable LED nodes with app control, sunset scheduling, and saved scenes
- Power placement planned around your existing exterior circuits
- Scene programming and a walkthrough of the app before the crew leaves
- Support from a local crew on the west side, not a call center
Because the system is on all year, it also does the quiet work a porch light never managed: a lit roofline at the end of a dark driveway in February, a house that looks occupied when you are away, and no extension cords across the lawn.
When to install
Any season with a dry roof. Spring and summer installs are common on the west side because the crew has long days and no competition with the holiday route, and the system is simply ready when December arrives. Fall installs work well here too because Westlake's window stays open longer than the east side's. If you are reading this in October and want it lit for the holidays, call us and we will tell you honestly whether the calendar can hold it. If not, we can put up a seasonal display this year and move you to permanent in the spring.
Permanent versus seasonal on the west side
Not every home needs a permanent system. If you want a traditional display with garland, wreaths, and wrapped trees and you are happy to have us hang and remove it each year, our seasonal service does exactly that, and the west side's milder snow makes the annual takedown less of a gamble than it is in the Heights. Permanent makes the most sense when you want the house lit every evening, when you are tired of the annual scramble, or when the roofline is tall enough that you would rather nobody was on a ladder against it at all. The walkthrough is where we figure out which fits, and plenty of Westlake homes end up with both.
